First Grade News
March 2020
Dear First Grade Families,
It’s hard to believe that we have started our last trimester. We are so busy in first grade that time just flies by.
Language Arts
We are working on Unit 5. The focus of this theme is “How can we make sense of the world around us?” We have been learning the long vowel sounds. We are not going to teach any new Language Arts next week and there will be no homework packet. We will resume Language Arts and homework after Spring Break.
Math
In Unit 6 students have been introduced to the hour hand, started 2-digit addition, doubles and near-doubles addition facts, making 10, and place value. You can help reinforce these new concepts by talking about math as it comes up in everyday life.
Box Tops
Don’t forget that we are still collecting Box Tops. This is a simple way to raise funds. Collection envelopes are located outside of our classrooms.
Things to Remember
Report cards will be coming home soon. Please remember to sign and return your child’s report card envelope to his/her teacher as soon as possible. Be sure to keep the actual report card at home. Students who bring their envelopes back within the first week will receive two Tiger Tickets!
Supplies
We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who so generously sent in supplies. We appreciate it. Check with your child to see if there are any supplies they think they need.
Important Dates
3/6 Walk and Roll to School
3/6 Shrek, Jr. at 7pm
3/7 Shrek, Jr. at 7p.m
3/8 Daylight Savings, spring forward 1 hour
3/11 PTA meeting at 6pm in the library
3/16-3/20 Spring Break, no school

Sincerely,
Your First Grade Team
